Healing Reactions: What to Expect (And How to Handle Them) On Your Mineral Balancing Journey

You started your mineral balancing protocol. You were feeling hopeful. And then... things got worse before they got better.

Maybe you're more tired than before. Maybe you have a headache that won't quit. Maybe your skin broke out, your digestion went haywire, or you feel like you're coming down with something.

Before you panic, read this: You're not failing. You're healing.

What you're experiencing is likely a healing reaction (also called retracing or a detox reaction). And while it's uncomfortable, it's actually a really good sign.

What Are Healing Reactions?

A healing reaction is your body's way of cleaning house.

For years (maybe decades), your body has been storing toxins, heavy metals, chemicals, and unresolved infections because it didn't have the energy or resources to deal with them. It tucked them away in your tissues just to keep you functioning.

Now that you're giving your body the minerals and support it needs, it finally has the strength to go back and finish what it couldn't before.

Think of it like this: your body has been too exhausted to clean the house. Dishes piled up. Laundry overflowed. Trash sat in the corner. You learned to live around the mess because you had no choice.

Now you finally have energy. So you start cleaning. And for a while, the house looks worse because everything that was hidden is now out in the open, being dealt with.

That's what a healing reaction is. Your body pulling out the old "mess" so it can finally get rid of it for good.

Healing reactions can be uncomfortable, frustrating, and even a little scary. But they're not dangerous. They're temporary. And they're proof that your body is strong enough to do the deep work it couldn't do before.

Why Do Healing Reactions Happen?

True healing isn't just about adding good things in (like minerals and nutrients). It's also about getting the bad things out (toxins, heavy metals, old infections, stored waste).

Your body heals in layers. As you restore mineral balance, your body gains the energy to:

  • Release stored heavy metals from your tissues into your bloodstream (so they can be eliminated)

  • Clear out old, unresolved infections that have been dormant

  • Repair damaged tissues and organs

  • Rebalance systems that have been dysfunctional for years

  • Detoxify chemicals and waste that have been stuck

As these toxins move out of your tissues and through your body on their way to elimination, you feel them.

That's the healing reaction.

Your liver has to process them. Your kidneys have to filter them. Your skin, lungs, and digestive system help eliminate them. And while all of this is happening, you might feel worse temporarily.

But here's the good news: Once those toxins are OUT, they're gone for good. You're not just suppressing symptoms. You're removing the root cause.

Common Healing Reaction Symptoms:

Healing reactions can show up in many ways. Here are the most common:

1. Fatigue

This is the #1 most common healing reaction. Your body is working hard behind the scenes. Cellular repair, detoxification, and immune system activation all require massive amounts of energy. Your body is prioritizing healing over daily tasks, so you feel exhausted.

What it feels like:

  • Needing more sleep than usual

  • Feeling wiped out even after rest

  • Afternoon crashes

  • Difficulty getting through your normal routine

2. Cold or Flu-Like Symptoms

As your immune system strengthens, it goes back to fight old infections it couldn't handle before. This can feel like you're getting sick, but you're not. Your body is clearing out what's been lingering.

What it feels like:

  • Sore throat

  • Runny or stuffy nose

  • Sinus pressure

  • Cough

  • Low-grade fever

  • Body aches

3. Aches and Pains

When toxic metals (like lead, mercury, or aluminum) are released from your tissues into your bloodstream, they can cause inflammation. This often shows up as joint pain, muscle soreness, or general achiness.

What it feels like:

  • Joint pain (knees, hips, shoulders, hands)

  • Muscle stiffness or soreness

  • Feeling like you overdid it at the gym (even though you didn't)

4. Digestive Issues

As toxins move through your intestinal tract on their way out, your digestion can temporarily go haywire.

What it feels like:

  • Bloating (sometimes severe)

  • Constipation

  • Diarrhea

  • Gas

  • Stomach discomfort

  • Nausea

5. Skin Breakouts or Rashes

Your skin is one of your body's detox pathways. When your liver and kidneys are working overtime, your skin helps pick up the slack.

What it feels like:

  • Acne or pimples (even if you don't normally break out)

  • Rashes or hives

  • Itchy skin

  • Eczema flare-ups

6. Headaches

Toxins circulating through your bloodstream can cause headaches as your liver works to filter them out.

What it feels like:

  • Dull, persistent headache

  • Pressure in your temples or forehead

  • Sensitivity to light or sound

  • Migraines (if you're prone to them)

7. Mood Swings or Emotional Release

Sometimes healing reactions aren't just physical. As your body releases stored toxins, old emotions or stress can surface too.

What it feels like:

  • Irritability or anger

  • Sadness or crying for no clear reason

  • Anxiety or restlessness

  • Feeling emotionally raw

8. Changes in Sleep

Your body might need more sleep to heal, or your sleep patterns might temporarily shift.

What it feels like:

  • Needing 9-10+ hours of sleep

  • Waking up frequently during the night

  • Vivid dreams or nightmares

  • Difficulty falling asleep

How Long Do Healing Reactions Last?

Healing reactions are temporary. They can last anywhere from a few hours to a few weeks, depending on:

  • How toxic your body is

  • How quickly your detox pathways are working

  • How aggressive your protocol is

  • Your stress levels and lifestyle factors

Most healing reactions pass within 3-7 days. Some are shorter (just a day or two). Others linger for 2-3 weeks if your body is clearing something deep.

The key is this: they always pass. And when they do, you feel better than you did before.

How To Manage Healing Reactions (So They're Not Overwhelming)

If a healing reaction becomes too intense or uncomfortable, you're not stuck. There are several things you can do to slow down the detox process and give your body time to catch up.

1. Reduce or Pause Your Supplements

This is the most effective way to ease a healing reaction. If symptoms are too intense, stop your supplements for 2-3 days (or reduce the dose by half). This slows the detox process and gives your body time to eliminate what's already been released.

Important: You can generally continue digestive aids like GB-3 unless you're experiencing diarrhea. But pause your mineral supplements temporarily.

Once symptoms ease, you can restart your protocol at a lower dose and gradually work back up.

Reach out to me via WhatsApp if you need guidance on adjusting your protocol.

2. Rest and Sleep More

Healing takes enormous amounts of energy. Your body needs rest to do this work.

What to do:

  • Aim for 8+ hours of sleep per night

  • Go to bed earlier (ideally by 9-10 PM)

  • Take naps if you can

  • Cancel non-essential activities and give yourself permission to slow down

This isn't laziness. This is your body doing deep repair work. Honor it.

3. Drink More Water

Your kidneys filter toxins out of your bloodstream and eliminate them through urine. The more hydrated you are, the easier this process is.

What to do:

  • Drink plenty of clean, filtered water (spring water is ideal)

  • Sip throughout the day, not all at once

  • Avoid dehydrating beverages (excess caffeine, alcohol)

Proper hydration speeds up detox and reduces the intensity of healing reactions.

4. Support Your Liver

Your liver is working overtime during a healing reaction. You can support it with simple, gentle methods.

What to do:

  • Castor oil packs: Apply a castor oil-soaked cloth over your liver (right side, under ribs) for 30-60 minutes while resting

  • Epsom salt baths: Soak in a warm bath with 1-2 cups of Epsom salts to draw out toxins through your skin

  • Eat liver-supporting foods: Beets, leafy greens, lemon water, cruciferous vegetables

5. Keep Your Bowels Moving

If you're constipated during a healing reaction, toxins can't exit efficiently. This makes symptoms worse.

What to do:

  • Drink enough water

  • Eat fiber-rich foods (if tolerated)

  • Consider magnesium (if you're not already taking it)

  • Reach out to me if constipation is severe

Note: If you're experiencing diarrhea, focus on hydration and electrolytes. Reach out to me for guidance.

6. Gentle Movement

Light movement helps circulation, which supports detoxification. But don't push yourself. This isn't the time for intense workouts.

What to do:

  • Go for a gentle walk

  • Do light stretching or yoga

  • Move your body without exhausting it

7. Reduce Stress

Stress slows detoxification and makes healing reactions worse. Do what you can to create calm.

What to do:

  • Say no to non-essential commitments

  • Ask for help from family or friends

  • Take breaks throughout the day

  • Practice deep breathing or meditation

  • Be kind to yourself

8. Reach Out For Support

You don't have to do this alone. If a healing reaction feels overwhelming, confusing, or scary, message me via WhatsApp. I can help you adjust your protocol, offer reassurance, and guide you through it.

You're not bothering me. This is exactly what I'm here for.

How To Know If It's A Healing Reaction or Something Else

Healing reactions typically:

✓ Come and go (not constant)

✓ Improve within days to weeks

✓ Coincide with starting or adjusting your protocol

✓ Feel different than your "normal"

✓ Could be accompanied by other detox symptoms (fatigue, headaches, skin breakouts, mood shifts)

If reactions are:

✗ Getting progressively worse

✗ Severe and debilitating

✗ Accompanied by sharp pain, fever, or blood in stool

✗ Not improving after 3-4 weeks

→ Reach out to me immediately so we can adjust your protocol or rule out other issues. (Always remember you can call 911 or see your doctor at any time as well.)

The Most Important Thing To Remember:

Healing reactions are temporary. And they're proof that your body is doing exactly what it's supposed to do.

It's not pleasant. I won't sugarcoat that. But it's also not forever.

Every symptom you're experiencing right now is your body releasing what's been holding you back. Once it's gone, it's gone for good.

You're not getting worse. You're getting better in a way that's messy and uncomfortable for a little while.

Hang in there. Rest. Hydrate. Slow down if you need to. And trust that your body knows what it's doing.

This is the deep work. And you're doing it.

Healing isn't always linear. But it is happening.

Stay the course. Reach out if you need support. And trust that your body knows what it's doing.

When To Reach Out?

Healing reactions are normal and expected. But if you experience any of the following, contact me immediately:
